Wish you great luck on finishing a new version of that; my brother is begging for a more powerful model editor that is free. Its a long time you haven't been in the MoMM forum...

Open regedit, go to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\Shell". There should be an entry called "Open with War3ModelEditor". Remove it. Just be careful you don't remove some other (important) registry entry.

If by grey square you mean you cannot see a menu or anything else then you're probably running on a laptop and/or using an integrated graphics card. I have no solution, sorry.

Your question is confusing.
If you're attempting to animate from scratch then I suggest not using war3modeleditor. Though technically possible, it requires entering transformations manually which is hard and time consuming.
Go to http://www.hiveworkshop.com or http://www.wc3c.net and check out the modelling forums.

Man... It was already here, and you discovered it to take on for a year? Just remember, Magos's website is useful in these types of situations.

Looks like a nice program.
Could you help me with something? I tried to edit a model, starbase.
I found how to rotate it around the mass point, but I also want to animate it... and I can't really find it how.
I've read that you need bones or something?
I think I do those in Node Manager, but I can't see how...
You previously discouraged someone from doing an animation from scratch with this program, but all I want is to rotate it... Around the "secondary" Z axis (I rotated it on the Y or X I don't remember).
I'm trying to mimic the motion and position of a starbase in star trek.
Thank you for the assistance in advance. Smiley

Node Manager -> Right-click node -> Edit Node -> Rotation.
You have to specify each track node by hand. Rotations are expressed as quaternions, so if you don't know quaternions I'm afraid you're on slippery ice Smiley.
Make sure you run the latest version, as there was some bugs in the animation editor.

I'm using  1.07.

Sadly I don't know Quaternions (although I'm looking into them right now).
Is there anywhere some highly detailed yet easily understood tutorial to fit the needs of a basic user like me?
Or, can I request it? I really just need the rotation... and only on this one.

By the way, after rotating the model, will the blp texture file still fit it?

EDIT: Hmm, these Quaternions are tough... Is there an existing model that does the same? I tried bladestorm but didn't see anything relevant. :\

I suggest visiting http://www.wc3c.net/ or http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/news.php as I'm more of a programmer than a modeller Wink.
Don't know what you mean by "fit in", but a texture is generally not affected by transformations.

I visited both, and all the tutorials I found was with other programs than war3 model editor :\

As far as I've seen, modeling and programing is not so different x_x

I'm experimenting with random number sequences in the node editor - rotation, but it's pretty messed up... The model shrinks or grows, or just becomes some slim thing not even resembling the original one lol.
Is it possible to have the texture(skin) on the model in the editor?
Bones are quite elusive too... are there any other/better ways to place bones, other than defining it's point with X Y Z? Because it's hard to see what value is the best...
Disturbing, how I just one a simple rotation, and it's so difficult :\

Yea texture works fine
